Hunting Trip Check List
These are recommendations of items that you will need on your trip. Being prepared will increase your success and it will be more enjoyable. Please understand there are no sporting goods or big box stores close to the lodges to purchase these items. The weather will change and you need to be prepared for it. We do this for a living and know what works and is essential for you to have. The below are recommendations of equipment that we use. If you have any questions, please call or send us an email and we will provide an answer for you. We look forward to hunting with you.
- Polarized sun glasses with Amber lenses. We prefer Costa Del Mar 580’s glass with Green Mirror Finish.
- Some type of hat make sure under bill of hat is a dark color.
- A true small dry bag to carry personal stuff in. Simms Dry Creek Z Backpack is great.
- Sunblock of at least 30 for body and sunblock for lips as well.
- Rain Gear tops and bottoms. Simms Pro Dry Parka & Bibs or Simms Vapor Elite Jacket and Pant. Sitka Gear makes great camo rain gear.
- South America trips will get a list by email depending on Lodge, Season, or Government requirements.
Waterfowl Hunting:
- 20 or 12 gauge
- Modified chokes
- Ducks #2’s in 2 ¾ or 3 inch steel shot only or Geese BB’s in 2 ¾ or 3 inch steel shot only
- Waders we prefer Breathable ones. Boots for these make sure they have a good grip sole on them.
- Camo we prefer Sitka Waterfowl. Hat, facemask, gloves, good socks, jacket, etc.
- Ear Plugs, Bug Spray, Hand Warmers, flashlight
- Cooler for taking home birds
- You are more than welcome to bring your dog. Make sure you have all the proper paperwork for your dog and bring it with you.
- Blind bag

Dove & Quail Hunting:
- 20 or 12 gauge
- Modified chokes
- 6 or 7 ½ shots with 1 ounce
- Snake boots
- Field bag
- Ear Plugs, Shooting glasses, flashlight, and bug spray
- Light camo or light tan shooting shirts and pants.
- Cooler for taking home birds
- You are more than welcome to bring your dog. Make sure you have all the proper paperwork for your dog and bring it with you.

Deer Hunting:
- 243, 270, or 7mm mag or bow with at least a dozen arrows. Make sure your broad head and bow meets the State of Texas requirements.
- Snake boots
- Field bag
- Ear Plugs, Shooting glasses, flashlight, face mask, hand warmers, gloves, and bug spray
- Binoculars and rangefinder
- 2 boxes of shells
- Coolers to take home your game
- Good camouflage like Sitka Gear and layers
- Texas Whitetail Hunting License
Texas is a state that does not require a draw or purchase of a specific tag, your license can be purchased over the counter at any local sporting goods store. You may also purchase your license online through Texas Parks and Wildlife’s website. The current cost of a non-resident license in Texas is $315. A youth license is $7. All of the tags that you will need for your hunt are included on the license. Hog Hunting:
- 243 or 270 is perfect gun for these animals
- Bowhunters make sure your broadhead and bow meets the State of Texas requirements.
- Snake boots
- Field bag
- Ear Plugs, Shooting glasses, flash light, hand warmers, gloves, and bug spray
- Binoculars and rangefinder
- 2 boxes of shells
- Coolers to take home your game
- Good camouflage like Sitka Gear and layers
- Appropriate Hunting License for the State of Texas.
You will need to have a hunting license to hunt hogs in Texas. A non-resident type 157 is required if you are not a TX resident. If you are a TX resident you will need a type 101. Turkey Hunting:
- 20 or 12 gauge
- 3 inch Turkey Loads
- Bow hunters make sure your broadhead and bow meets the State of Texas requirements.
- Field bag & Turkey Calls
- Snake boots
- Ear Plugs, Shooting glasses, flash light, face mask, hand warmers, gloves, and bug spray
- Binoculars and rangefinder
- 2 boxes of shells
- Coolers to take home your game
- Good camouflage like Sitka Gear and layers
- Appropriate Hunting License for the State of Texas.
